Rufiji Delta in Tanzania hosts the largest single mangrove forest in Eastern Africa. Despite the critical ecosystem goods and services it provides to communities and other stakeholders, the area is experiencing a range of management challenges, pressure from human activities and climate change.

Mangrove Capital Africa (MCA) programme, led by Wetlands International, conducted various studies in the Rufiji delta. This Technical Brief, developed from those studies, discusses the status, opportunities and challenges of mangrove conservation and management in the delta. Possible solutions have been identified, and numerous recommendations for adoption by diverse players presented with the goal of restoring this vital mangrove gem.
