Two information and awareness-raising sessions for high-level decision-makers on the challenges of the services provided by the ecosystems of the Upper Niger and the Inner Niger Delta in connection with the decision-making tools for the Integrated Water Resource Management ( IWRM) in the context of climate change took place on August 2022 as part of the BAMGIRE program, funded by the Embassies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Mali.

Under the chairmanship of the Ministers in charge of Administration, these two sessions in Guinea and Mali mobilized several high-level decision-makers, namely:

  • The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization in Mali;
  • The Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water in Guinea and Mali;
  • The Ministry of Rural Development in Mali;
  • The Ministry of the Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development in Mali;
  • The Ministry of Rural Development in Mali;
  • The President of the High Council of Communities of Mali;
  • Governors of the regions along the river Niger and Bani in Guinea and Mali;
  • The Commission for Rural Development, Environment and Sanitation of Water and Water Energy and the Environment of National Transition Council in Mali ;
  • The Niger Basin Authority in Niamey (Niger);
  • The President of the Association of Municipalities of Mali;
  • The General Director of FOMI dam in Guinea.

The general objective of these two workshops was to inform and raise the awareness of high-level decision-makers on the challenges of the services provided by the ecosystems of the Upper Niger and the Inner Niger Delta in connection with the decision-making tools for the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the context of climate change

And specifically:

  • Present the achievements of PCA-GIRE_BAMGIRE to decision-makers;
  • Understand through indicators and trend analysis how to make a decision or choose the right water management compromise for the benefit of communities and social and societal values.
  • Make recommendations/commitments for a good integrated management of water resources in Mali for the benefit of users of natural resources in general and water in particular.

 
Panel is consisting of the President of the CNU Mali, National Hydraulic Director Mali, Director Wetlands Int, and Moderator President Partnership Nation of Water of Mali.


Decision-markers workshop in Kankan, Guinée

Following these two workshops, recommendations were made to kick-start IWRM in the two countries. The Guinea workshop took place in the city of Kankan on August 10, 2022 and the Mali workshop in Bamako on August 16, 2022.
