Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Ethiopia

My love for nature was imprinted in my childhood as I lived with my family in a rural area close to natural environment. Oft were the times I would go fishing at nearby rivers, listening to the calming forest sounds particularly birds’ calls. That inspired my initial career interest in forestry and now as an M&E specialist.

Presently, my profession is in project management and monitoring and evaluation. This entails designing, planning, managing, tracking and assessing, and evaluating projects and the effective communication of results.

After pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from Alemaya University in 1991, I was deployed to Borena District in Oromia region. Years later, I got an opportunity to join a team in monitoring and assessing the environmental and human health effects of pesticides in Ethiopia. That experience inspired me so much as to change my career to M&E. Cumulatively, I have 20 plus years of experience in Government and Non-Governmental Organisations, with various levels of responsibility at different capacities, on projects related to agriculture, environmental protection and public health.

Naturally, I have a passion for birds and the environment as a whole, hence my delight at joining Wetlands International Eastern Africa in 2022.

I attained a Masters of Science in Biology (Ecological and Systematic Zoology) from Addis Ababa in 2002 and a Masters in Business Administration from Sikkim Manipal University in 2013.

I love exercising and sometimes engage in outdoor sports in addition to spending time with family and friends.
